Beatrice Chen is the Executive Director of Immigrant Social Services, Inc. (ISS). She has 20 years of non-profit experience working at the intersection of arts & culture, education, and public history, including 15 years at the forefront of community history and culture work in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Prior to joining ISS as the Deputy Executive Director in May 2018, she was the Vice President for Programs and Museum Experience at the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA). She first joined MOCA in 2003 as the Curator of Education, where she operationalized the museum’s education department and developed programs on Asian American/Chinese American/Chinatown history for elementary school through college students, educators, youth, families, and adults. Then, as the Director of Education & Programs during the museum’s expansion to its current space, she led her team in creating and implementing the vision and strategy for the development, growth, and sustainability of education initiatives. She has also been the Manager of Teaching & Learning at The New York Public Library, Content Producer for classroom resources at WNET/Thirteen, and a consultant at Mozilla Foundation Hive NYC Youth Digital Media Learning Network. Beatrice grew up in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the U.S. and thanks to her mother, has maintained biliteracy in Chinese. She received a B.A. in history and international studies from Yale University, an Ed.M. in Arts in Education from Harvard University, and a Masters in City Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
